The only way to log out of WhatsApp on mobiles is by either uninstalling the app and installing again, or by clearing app data. If an individual is using the WhatsApp web facility, then he/she has the option to log out. In the case of WhatsApp web, log out is a simple procedure. Whereas when it comes to the Android or iOS devices, it becomes more complicated. This article explains the various steps that are to be followed to log out of WhatsApp temporarily.

How to log out of WhatsApp on an Android device.

Before logging out of  WhatsApp on a mobile phone, you have to ensure that the chats and messages have been backed up. This ensures that you do not lose data when you log back in.

  1. Back up data: The first step is to back up your chats. In order to do this, you have to launch the WhatsApp application. Once in the application, tap in the menu option in the top right corner. From the drop-down list, you have to select settings. In settings, you have to then select “chat”. In the chat settings, select back up chat and ensure that your back up is complete.
  2. Open phone Settings: Once your chat is backed up, close the WhatsApp application and open the settings of your phone.
  3. Locate “Apps”: Once you open settings, you have to then locate the “Apps” option. This option takes you to the application settings.
  4. Find WhatsApp: In the app's settings, you have to scroll until you find the WhatsApp application and tap on it. It will take you to the settings of WhatsApp.
  5. Clear Data: In the settings of WhatsApp, you have to tap on clear data option and it will clear all the data of the application and thereby, you log out of WhatsApp.

(Alternative method)

Another way of logging out is by uninstalling the app and installing again. For this, the same steps are to be followed up to step number 4. Once in the WhatsApp settings, you have to select uninstall. This will automatically log you out of your account.

How to log out of  WhatsApp on an iPhone

Logging out of WhatsApp on an iPhone is similar to log out on an android. Just like mentioned above, even here, you have to back up your data to ensure that you do not lose it when you log in again.

  1. Back up data: The first step is to back up your chats. In order to do this, you have to launch the WhatsApp application. Once in the application, you have to select settings. It is the gear icon in the bottom right corner. In settings, you have to then select “chat”. In the chat settings, tap on back up. Once you tap on back up, select auto back up and ensure that your back up is complete.
  2. Open phone Settings: Once your chat is backed up, close the WhatsApp application and open the settings of your phone from the home screen.
  3. Locate “Apps”: Once you open settings, you have to then locate the “Apps” option. This option takes you to the application settings.
  4. Find WhatsApp: In the app's settings, you have to scroll until you find the WhatsApp application and tap on it. It will take you to the settings of WhatsApp.
  5. Clear Data: In the settings of WhatsApp, you have to tap on clear data option and it will clear all the data of the application and thereby, you log out of WhatsApp.

(Alternative method)

Once you are done with the backup, you can simply log out by uninstalling. To do this, long-press the WhatsApp icon in your home screen, and then tap on the small  “x” sign that appears.

How to log out of WhatsApp web

  1. Launch WhatsApp: Open the WhatsApp application on your phone
  2. Select Menu: In the WhatsApp application, access the menu option. It is found in the top right corner of the screen. It is represented by 3 vertical dots.
  3. Tap on “WhatsApp Web”: From the drop-down menu, tap on WhatsApp web. It will take you to the settings regarding WhatsApp web.
  4. Choose “log out”: In the settings of WhatsApp web, Choose the option of log out of all devices. Once you tap on it, you will be logged out of WhatsApp web on all computer devices.

Thus the following steps are to be followed to log out of WhatsApp. The steps are similar when it comes to mobile devices. But it is slightly different when it comes to WhatsApp web.
